ASTM--A Word About Established Safety Standards
When talking about safety cover, the first word that comes to our mind is ASTM. ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of international voluntary consensus standards. Today, some 12,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade, and build consumer confidence.
ASTM F1346-91(2010)is the requirements of safety covers for swimming pools, spas, hot tubs, and wading pools (hereinafter referred to as pools, unless otherwise specified). When correctly installed and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, this specification is intended to reduce the risk of drowning by inhibiting the access of children under five years of age to the water.
There are three basic pool safety covers: mesh, solid and automatic in the market. But whatever pool safety cover you choose, make sure it meets ASTM standard. The standard states that a safety cover must hold "two adults' and one child's weights" in the event of an emergency.
Many pool cover manufacturers including Landy company choose to have their safety covers undergo rigorous testing by Underwriters Laboratories (UL®) in order to ensure they conform to ASTM standards. If their pool cover meets or surpasses those standards, their product will be awarded the UL® seal of approval.
Look for the seal when shopping for a safety cover so you can feel at ease about its quality and anticipated level of performance.
